The Buildings, Pond and Gardens Complex located in Petra, Wadi Musa, Jordan. Established possibly as early as 312 BC, it has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1985. Built in the first century AD, the complex was once considered to have been a commercial market but was later determined to be a garden and pond. The pond was 2.43 x 23 x 5 meters and the inside of the building is 14.11 x 5.5 meters. The north side wall was a stone dam, which was usd to store water from the canals. Water was distributed through the channel along the walls of the pond. The building at the center represented an island or a floating ship on water. It was used as a place for recreation and hiking for the residents of the city. Taken in October 2014.

A most excellent and beautiful image of the always intriguing Petra, which was once the major economic center of the Near East/Arab area until the Silk-Road diverted the trade routes away from it.

Thank you Hartmut. Petra is an amazing historical location. Climbing and exploring the mountains around the site is a great experience I hopefully can do again someday.
